It may be the
case that getting the measuring process right for an inside
the recess vertical blind is particularly crucial. The very
edges of the outer slats of the blind will need to fit snugly
but comfortably inside the recess, and still block out as
much light as possible when they are in the closed position.
Bearing in mind how unlikely it is that the distance between
either vertical side of the recess will be identical, the
most sensible method is to take a number of measurements
all the way down e.g. in 3 places (top, middle and bottom),
and to take the narrowest of these as the main width measurement.
For
outside the recess vertical
blinds the measuring process is still important since
having a blind which is noticeably too wide can look bad.
In most cases however there is unlikely to be enough of
a slant on the vertical sides of the window recess to cause
problems when it comes to making blinds
to fit. It should simply be a case of providing the vertical
blind company with the measurement for the widest part of
the horizontal width of the window recess. It is however
important to take notice of how much room vertically there
is between the top of the window recess and the ceiling
since this area will need to house the part of the vertical
blind which the slats are suspended from. If you have
any doubts, most reputable vertical blind makers would be
happy to answer your questions over the phone.
