Old style strip lighting or a single traditional bulb with
a large shade around it can do little to enhance a feeling
of light and space throughout the whole room. Darker coloured
paintwork and / or heavily textured ceiling can also soak
up valuable light. Having smooth skimmed plaster ceilings
painted white, and incorporating a number of modern halogen
spotlights across the whole ceiling area can give a lighter,
brighter, bigger feel to a room. This can also lead to a
more even distribution of light throughout the room.
Since windows provide the main source of natural daylight
for most rooms, care should be taken to keep the window
areas as clear and uncluttered as possible. Heavy curtains,
even when opened, can soak up some light and give a heavier
feel to the room. Light coloured vertical
blinds can give a real feeling of space. The flat, uniform
slats of vertical
blinds reflect light into room and are spaced evenly
across the window, allowing you to get a clear view outside.
As vertical blinds don’t take up as much room by the
sides of the window as curtains, and don’t block out
as much light when partially closed as roller or roman blinds,
vertical blinds
allow you to make the most of natural light in your home,
whilst giving your window areas a neat, modern look.
